Flexcut™ 3-inch Drawknife

The 3-inch drawknife was designed for fan-carving with Flexcut™ Tool Co., Inc. Because of the single-beveled cutting edge, the flat back of the knife has the advantage of guiding the blade along with the white cedar fiber. The drawknife with handles on both sides helps to lever through a pocket of pitch or dry cells if necessary. The thinness of the cutting blade is advantageous when slicing very thin blades/feathers. The slices will move forward and prevent the knife from binding in the wood. The 3-inch drawknife is also useful for debarking walking sticks and roughing out in-the-round carvings. Flexcut™ Pelican Knife

The Flexcut™ Pelican Knife is our favorite. With its contour blade, it is advantageous to carve across the 2-inch portion of the blank to achieve the long-tapered hinge cut. Additional images:

Flexcut™ Riving Knife (Right-Handed)

The single-bevel knife used for riving/slicing small hand-held fan items. It is also handy for cleaning up those imperfect blades/feathers.

Flexcut™ Riving Knife (Left-Handed)

The single-bevel knife used for riving/slicing small hand-held fan items. It is also handy for cleaning up those imperfect blades/feathers.

Flexcut™ Scorp (Right-Handed)

Small V-shaped gouge used for blade/feather decoration. Great for making a stop-cut.

Stubai™ 16mm - 5/8-inch #11 deep veiner

This gouge works nicely to easily and more quickly cut in the interlock for the 1/2-inch pattern. It makes the interlock measurement more consistent and uniform across the blank. Cravers with wrist problems find this tool helpful. Additional images:

Stubai™ 12mm - 1/2-inch #11 Deep Veiner

This gouge works nicely to narrow the interlock cut when the original cut was produced with the larger 16mm gouge. It narrows the center of the interlock cut. This action would be completed AFTER the fibers are rived/split. OR this tool is used for creating the original interlock on a smaller fan item. It allows for a more precise, uniform interlock cut across the fan blank. It is helpful for cravers with hand and wrist problems. Additional images:

Stubai™ 10mm - 3/8-inch #11 Deep Veiner

This gouge works nicely to narrow the interlock cut when the original cut produced with the larger 12mm - 1/2-inch gouge. This action is done AFTER the fibers are rived/split. It creates a deeper center of the interlock so the feathers can seat together more nicely. OR this tool can be used for adding decorative detail along the feather/blade section of the fan item. It’s great fun to create artistic designs along the feather/blade edge.

Stubai™ 8mm - 5/16-inch #11 Deep Veiner

This sweet little smaller-sized gouge is used to narrow the interlock cut when the original cut was made with the 12mm - 1/2-inch gouge. This action is done AFTER the fibers are rived/split. It creates a deeper center of the interlock so the feathers can seat together more nicely. OR this tool can be used for adding decorative detail along the feather/blade section of the fan item. It’s great fun to create artistic designs along the feather/blade edge.

Stubai™ 25mm - 1-inch 2.5 Shallow Gouge

This gouge is used for putting in the hinge. It’s a nice gentle sweep that is almost flat. The subtle sweep allows for the tool edges to smoothly slide down the wood to create the basic slant and angle for the hinge. AFTER the blades are rived, this same tool is used to narrow the hinge. Thumb Guard Tape

This tape is superior to any other that we have tried. One roll will last a long time. Store it in a plastic bag to prevent deterioration. Create your own thumb guard and use it repeatedly. We recommend using a thumb guard especially with the contour blade of the Flexcut™ Pelican Knife.

Fan Carver’s Third Hand

A device used to grasp small items, allowing both hands to be free for interlocking blades/feathers.
